Frequently Asked Questions
Academic ABA therapy combines the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) with individualized academic instruction. Taught with the expertise of Ontario Certified Teachers, it uses positive reinforcement to teach foundational reading, writing, and math skills while addressing behavioral needs in a classroom-like setting.
Yes. Speech therapy and occupational therapy are eligible core clinical services under the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). Families can apply their OAP core funding or use private benefit plans to cover these multidisciplinary therapies at Step Up Autism Center.
Our Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Registered Behaviour Analysts create a single, synchronized plan. Instead of separate, disconnected appointments, your child works on communication and sensory integration goals during their regular ABA sessions under joint clinical supervision.
Early intervention can begin in early childhood (as young as 12 to 18 months). We also provide specialized programming for school-aged children and adolescents preparing for high school transitions and independent living.
Step Up Autism Center primarily offers structured, center-based therapy in Scarborough, Ajax and Oshawa. This setting provides an ideal environment for peer interaction, academic group learning, and specialized sensory equipment for families in Scarborough, Ajax, Oshawa, and the broader Durham Region.
